# Pixel consent

The store setting that decides what the Omnymous pixel does before a visitor's own consent answer is known, and where it applies.

![The Pixel consent card: Anonymous until the storefront signals consent, and Consent is already handled — attribute from the first hit, selected, above the note on this store’s default and where the setting applies](https://docs.omnymous.com/media/tracking/consent/card.cc4c92e0.avif)

**Pixel consent** is the pixel’s starting point for a visitor who has not given a consent answer yet. It is one setting per store, in **Settings**, under **Stores**. The workspace’s owner and admins can change it; everyone else sees it.

## The two settings

| Name | What it does |
| ------------------------------------------------------------- | ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ |
| **Anonymous until the storefront signals consent** | Page views are counted, but the pixel sets and reads no visitor identifiers until your consent banner, or a consent tool, tells it otherwise. Attribution starts from that moment. |
| **Consent is already handled — attribute from the first hit** | For a store that collects consent elsewhere, or operates where consent is not required first. Identifiers are set on the first page view, so the first touch of every journey is recorded. |

## This store’s default

Until someone chooses, a store starts anonymous if its timezone is a European one or it sells in a European currency, such as the euro, the pound or the Swiss franc, and attributes from the first hit everywhere else. The note under the two settings says which default applies to your store.

## Where it applies

- **Pages inside your theme**, including your store’s own pages: Shopify’s customer privacy settings decide for each visitor, and the pixel follows the answer your store’s cookie banner collects. This setting applies only when Shopify has no answer.
- **Pages published with Omnymous’s own layout** have no Shopify runtime, so this setting decides there.
- **What always wins:** a visitor’s Global Privacy Control signal, and an explicit consent signal from your storefront.

Your theme’s own tracking is not affected.

## When a change takes effect

A page takes the setting when it is published. Pages that are already live keep the setting they were published with until they are published again.

## Questions

### My store already shows Shopify’s cookie banner. Do I need to change this?

Not for your store’s own pages: the pixel follows the banner’s answer there. The setting matters for pages you publish with Omnymous’s own layout.

### Why is there no option to turn the pixel off for everyone?

Declining is each visitor’s answer, given through your banner or their browser’s Global Privacy Control, and the pixel honours it. Switching it off for every visitor would stop Omnymous from measuring your ads at all.
